Today was a mere 380 km with a leisurely start of 10.00. an unheard start time. It was quite funny watching all this eager rally teams pacing around looking at their watches wondering what to do with themselves and wether they had time for a second helping of breakfast. Some even tinkered with their cars. In my experience a very bad idea.
Talking of which Molly is still running very well. We have some new rattles and bangs but otherwise all good.
The morning drive was on good tarmac roads through a lot of farm land where ostrich seems to be the main crop :)
A very pleasant lunch is had and then we think we have an easy drive for the rest of the day.
What actually unfolds is a drive like nothing else we have tackled before. When we were asked at lunch if we need a sherpa, pack mule, Rick Mears survival book and oxygen mask we should have twigged something was going to be different from the morning run.
We turned off a nice tarmac road onto a bit of gravel road, no thats not quite right, we turn off onto a goat track.
This goat track was approx 20 km and took us about 2 hours.
This was a track over the Swartberg Pass.
A world natural heritage site. It it with out doubt the most amazing bit of road, goat track we have ever driven. the gradient was 1.8, There were no safety barriers only mud kerbs with shear drops (luckily mainly on Julies side)
The most awesome scenery we have ever seen. We have tried to show some of this in the photos but nothing can do this justice, you will just have to come and see for yourselves or Google earth it.

We would do this track again, not sure Molly would be so keen, think may be in the latest 4 wheel drive machine with all the hill decent gearing.
A couple of the cars decided this pass was a good place to dump their brake fluid. Both automatics, for both teams we gather is was quite a life changing experience and not to be repeated.
Our rally mechanics did amazing work and got both cars down the pass and back in the rally.
